Big Brother Racism: Season Four was the fourth season of the popular Big Brother Racism series, which concluded on August 21st, 2009. The fourth season was the only season of Big Brother to feature not one but two contestants who could not read or write. This disability often led to extended periods of blackouts on the live feeds during competitions particularly during week 13 when Celie was Head of Household for the first time. Despite the extended interruption of the feed by both Celie and Fantasia, both home viewers and Internet viewers alike loved the two contestants. Season four was also the first season where a Head of Household received nothing from their family in the basket, leading to one of the most heartbreaking meltdowns on the feeds by Celie. In the first week of the game, houseguest Maria Elena attempted to kill herself by overdosing on Nyquil. This event happened before the premiere, so it was not shown on the feeds. The producers attempted to keep this entire ordeal a secret, blacking out the feeds the moment it was even aluded to and warning all evicted houseguests not to mention it in post-show interviews. It remained a secret until Sherri Shepherd's interview, when she let slip about the incident and the producers were forced to elaborate further on it.
